Outdoor Engagement Session

Outdoor Engagement Session: Frances Photography is humbled to have been in business in Colorado for 12 years and continues to grow and evolve with our team of associate photographers.  One of our associate photographers, Jennifer Winder, began working with Frances Photography in 2014.  Jen’s personable, vibrant, and outgoing personality makes her clients feel comfortable during photo shoots, and as a result, couples in Jennifer’s photos are relaxed and at ease and their photos are always gorgeous.  Jennifer excels at portrait photography and it’s evident through her engagement sessions.  Jennifer has photographed a number of outdoor engagement sessions with Frances Photography that illustrate the beauty that is Colorado, and show her talent for taking portraits.  From city parks, to hiking and biking trails, to the gorgeous Colorado Mountains, it’s a photographer’s dream to have such beautiful backdrops so close to Denver.  We’ve put together a few of our favorite outdoor spots in Colorado to give you some ideas for your outdoor engagement session, featuring the work of our amazing Jennifer Winder.

City Parks:

There are so many city parks surrounding the Denver/Metro area in Colorado, that for the outdoorsy couple, the natural beauty of city parks is a great option for an outdoor engagement session.  We’ve definitely seen the popularity of city parks for engagement sessions increase over the past few years as it offers a location that is close to home, appeals to couples who love the outdoors, and offers beautiful green scenery.  Here are a few of our favorite city parks for your outdoor engagement session:

  • Sterne Park – Littleton, CO
  • City Park – Denver, CO
  • Washington Park – Denver, CO
  • Cheesman Park  – Denver, CO
  • Civic Center Park – Denver, CO
  • Sloan’s Lake Park – Denver, CO
  • Commons Park – Denver, CO
  • Morrison Park – Morrison, CO

Ana Belen & Adam:

Jennifer had Ana Belen & Adam’s engagement session at Sterne Park in Denver, CO.  The couple was going for something outdoors, natural, and peaceful since they are really big outdoors people.  They love hiking, running, traveling, and try to get out of town for the day, whenever they have a day off together.  Our favorite part about Ana Belen and Adam’s outdoor engagement session is how attentively Jennifer caught the two lovebirds laughing and having fun together, as if no one was around.

Biking and Hiking Trails:

Tina & Andy:

Another popular spot for outdoor engagement sessions that we’ve been using here at Frances Photography are biking and hiking trails.  Biking and hiking trails not only offer the natural beauty of city parks, but there can be some really great views from trails, as you work your way up towards the mountains (which we’ll  discuss more in detail, below).

If you’re like Tina & Andy and love adventure, here are a few nearby trails that have breathtaking views along the way:

  • Ute Valley Park – Colorado Springs, CO
  • Hanging Lake Trail – Glennwood Springs, CO
  • The Incline Trail – Manitou Springs, CO
  • Royal Arch Trail –  Boulder, CO
  • Maxwell Falls Lower Trail – Evergreen, CO
  • Mount Falcon Castle Trail – Morrison, CO

Tina & Andy’s outdoor engagement session was taken at Ute Valley Park in Colorado Springs.  Many trails intertwine throughout Ute Valley Park and as such, it is a very popular place for hiking and biking… and photography!  This location was perfect for this adventurous couple as they both LOVE the outdoors and will go camping, hiking, backpacking, or kayaking, whenever they have the chance.

Mountains:

What’s an outdoor engagement session in Colorado without mountains? We may be bias, but the backdrop that the Rocky Mountains have to offer is hands down one of the most beautiful, romantic, and breath taking views that can be found in the United States, making Colorado mountains the perfect place for your outdoor engagement session.  Many of our couples ask to go to somewhere that has mountain backdrops for their engagement session. Here are a few of our favorite mountain locations for your outdoor engagement session:

  • Sapphire Point – Breckenridge, CO
  • Lookout Mountain – Golden, CO
  • Estes Park – Estes Park, CO
  • Mount Evans – Idaho Springs, CO

Mary & Scott

Jen took Mary & Scott up to Sapphire Point in Breckenridge, CO.  Mary & Scott wanted a winter wonderland for their engagement session since they have a winter wedding planned at Highlands Ranch Mansion in Highlands Ranch, CO on January 16, 2017.  Mary wanted the theme of their wedding to also be represented in their engagement photos so that there was a cohesive look between their engagement photos and weddings photos.  We absolutely love the idea of having engagement photos coordinate with the theme of wedding photos because when brides go to get prints of their photos, they can hang a series of photos in their home, some of their engagement photos and some of their weddings photos, and It looks unified and consistent as opposed to having a summer engagement photo framed next to a winter wedding photo.

Wherever you choose to have your engagement photos taken, make sure that the location speaks to you and your fiancé as a couple.  We’ve written a blog on this topic, which you can check out here.   Colorado has so many beautiful places and scenic vantage points to take advantage of that will make for beautiful photos that you will love for a lifetime.
