Photography is always challenging when the goal is to create art, but I haven’t been “challenged” by my craft for years like I was all of last week in Cozumel, Mexico. I was on vacation with my family doing some relaxing and scuba diving, activities that we have enjoyed together all of my life. Cozumel has always been one of our favorite locations and we decided to go back again this year. El Presidente Hotel has luscious accommodations, great pools, white sandy beaches, and excellent food and service! And most importantly, the scuba diving is amazingly convenient and truly, world class!! I borrowed an underwater camera set up from a friend and decided to give the underwater photography scenes a shot- no pun intended. 😉
I was surprised at the difficulty of underwater photography! Between staying perfectly neutrally buoyant, dealing with the currents, the moving sea creatures (darn them!), and the limitations of the gear I was using, it was really hard to produce the quality of imagery I am used to being able to get! But, it was so much fun to add to something I love to do to another thing I love to do; scuba dive. Needless to say, I have been doing some searching online for the real deal underwater gear for my next excursion that I am already fantasizing about.
I’ve always wanted to photograph a unique wedding underwater – anyone??
