As a wedding photographer, one of my absolute favorite things to do is bridal portraits. There are so many different photographic styles and backdrops to choose from and, ultimately, it is all about capturing the beauty and unique style of the bride. It is about immortalizing the final special moment of her life as a single woman.
Above all else, the perfect wedding album is about capturing the once in a lifetime atmosphere of a single day. Wedding days all too often fly by as a blur. After so much anticipation, it is a whirlwind of activity and excitement.
I have always found that behind the scenes wedding shoots of the bride and the groom separately capture the memories of those final moments. Few moments of our lives are marked with such anticipation as those last few hours before walking down the aisle. In the flurry of getting ready it is all too easy to forget them. That is why I believe it is so important to take our time capturing the perfect shot. Even if it is in front of the camera, it is a chance to reflect and live in the moment.
I could not have been more thrilled with this romantic bridal shot in Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado. As the bride takes in the gorgeous scenery of the sweeping Rocky Mountains landscape in front of her, it is as if she is opening the door to step out into the future. The rugged landscape in dramatic shades of pewter, stone, and smokey grey highlight the snow-white beauty of her wedding dress. Far from the hustle and bustle of Denver and modern life in general, the bride reflects on a timeless scene as she is about to set out on one of life’s most important rites of passage.
